John McFaul
Growing up in Chippewa Falls, artist John McFaul had frequent access to the beauty of both the Wisconsin and the Canadian north woods. From these sources, he drew inspiration that has ignited into a lifelong passion for the natural world. Research trips have since taken John throughout the continental U.S., Alaska, and East Africa. Currently John divides his time between studios in Cincinnati and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Cincinnati is a small major league city with one of the nation's best zoos as well a thriving cultural/arts scene. "Its' great to go to C.A.C. (Contemporary Arts Center) openings and get a totally different perspective from all the realism I'm usually surrounded by".
The Michigan studio is situated in a small town on the western edge of the 953,000-acre Ottawa National Forest. This forest is home to black bear, fisher, wolves, white tailed deer and the occasional moose. The Porcupine Mts., Lake Superior's Apostle Islands, and Chequamegon National Forest (which just happens to have an elk herd) are all nearby. This combination offers endless reference for new works, in short "Its' a wildlife artist's paradise, if only I had greater discipline, I would stay inside and get more painting done!"
Based on the following accolades, when he paints it seems to matter. However, what John considers his greatest honor are not the awards, but the many people who find a place in their homes for his artwork.

This very energetic and enigmatic artist represents the best of what the Upper Peninsula has to offer. Through the eyes of the artist, John takes us on a beautiful journey through his paintings and opens us up to the wonders that surround us, and the possibilities of what may lie ahead.
